HARRIET’S
ALTER EGO, where fashion imitates life…
Counting
clients like India. Arie, Talib Kweli, M.I.A, Mos Def, BET and Yerba Buena,
may be good for some, but for the owners of Harriet’sAlter Ego,
the support of everyday people is proof positive that what they do…well,
works.
Back in ’99, Harriet’s Alter Ego was an upstart, New York
City street festival vendor. Before such fashion fixtures were ‘in’,
deconstructed denim, vintage wear, and crocheted crowns were Harriet’s
hallmark. From there, custom orders were taken and produced in a one-bedroom,
Brooklyn apartment. After that, it was the Crown Heights boutique where
serious shoppers could find original pieces, handcrafted in the store’s
upstairs loft. At its current location, Harriet’s Alter Ego is a
literal and figurative hub of Brooklyn’s Flatbush Avenue.
Harriet’s is ever evolving. Not likely to be pigeonholed, the designers
are classically cutting edge. Each season is ushered in with new patterns,
fresh fabrics, and more-than-a-little-bit of attitude. Perfect for the
customer who craves individuality, even better for those who live it.
Inspired by the textiles, detailing, and functionality of indigenous dress,
designer Hekima Hapa and chief operating officer Ngozi Odita are bringing
cultured couture to the streets of New York.
As the stylish team at Harriet’s looks to tomorrow, opportunities
abound. The launch of an upscale t-shirt line for men and a women’s
accessories line, relocation to a larger store front space in Brooklyn,
artists showcases and sewing workshops – solidifying the fact that
Harriet’s is more than a clothing line or boutique. Harriet’s
Alter Ego… a true lifestyle brand, where fashion imitates life.
